Chowking is comfort food. Always loved their food - particularly the siomai and i also love that it can be bought frozen so that I always have them at home. Other menu items i enjoy are the sweet & sour pork, fried chicken, and beef wonton noodles. Service is always great! The crew always greets you with a smile and are always so happy to help.

Using a strictly fast food set-up, Chowking serves up a limited Filipino-style Chinese food menu with great value and tasty options. Three of us shared a dine-in meal there while running errands in Artesia, and we really enjoyed it (food and company). Chowking was founded in 1985 as a Filipino-Chinese fast food restaurant chain. In 2000, it was acquired by Jollibee, the largest Filipino restaurant chain. There are two locations in the Valley, one in Glendale, one in West Covina, one in Carson, and this one in Cerritos. I've seen them before, but never tried it...they can be located inside Seafood city's food court, and I've had a subpar experience at one of those food courts. This one in Cerritos is a stand-alone (though still very close, walking distance, from a Seafood City, and there was parking in the strip mall. You order and pay first, like any other fast food restaurant. But unlike a competitor like Panda Express, the food is prepared once you order...so you have to wait a bit. You are given a pager (sodas are self-serve so cup is given immediately). After about 10 minutes, I went up to collect our order and dine in. 2 Entree Lauriat ($12.99) - it's only an extra $0.50 for refillable drink so got that. The main meal comes with two pieces of dark meat chicken (choice of spicy or mild), white rice, pancit (noodles), buchi (sesame ball) and choice of an additional entree (we chose the honey walnut shrimp). The chicken was decent, sufficiently spicy, with a very crispy crust. The honey walnut shrimp pieces were small (popcorn shrimp size), but appreciated that each piece was mostly shrimp and not batter/coating. Plus it tasted pretty good, with the glaze and added walnuts. Beef Wonton ($9.99) - they were advertising this a lot, so decided to get it. I was commenting to my mother-in-law how I was hoping that the real dish looked as good as what was advertised...it wasn't. But it still tasted OK, especially for the price. They were going for a traditional Chinese beef noodle soup, which is hard to do in a fast food setting. But there were OK sized chunks of beef in there (guessing shank pieces), and the soup was OK (tasted like a good beef instant ramen broth). It also came with fresh cabbage and green onion. Halo-Halo ($6.99) - Mix-Mix. It was really good. It used crushed ice instead of the smoother shaved ice, and didn't have as many ingredients, but what it provided was solid. For my taste, it was the right mix of sweet beans, ube jam, and a good ube ice cream, along with a little condensed milk. By eating it slowly, it let the ice cream mix with the ice. Wasn't crazy about having to eat ice because of my teeth, but going slow was the way to go here. It never got too busy inside, so we were able to take our time. You self bus, and it was nice to be wished 'good day' as you left.

The food is superb! Especially the chicken, it's juicy on the inside and super crispy! I also love the honey walnut shrimp and the black jelly. The place feels so cozy and comfortable. The staff and managers are very welcoming, very attentive, very friendly and always serve with a smile, especially Miss Armay and Miss Elisha. They gave great recommendations, and I loved everything they suggested. Great service and a warm atmosphere. I'll definitely come back!

Panda Express is America's version of Chinese food, whereas Chowking is Philippines' version of Chinese food. Catch my drift? Lol!! Apparently, they do not have chicken siopao anymore... they used to back in the day, but it seems that I haven't been to a Chowking in so long. I ordered the popcorn chicken and taho. The popcorn chicken was ok. Not amazing, not horrible. It needed more seasoning other than salt. The taho was ok. The soft silken tofu was not silky... it was actually coarse, but taste and tapioca were good. Service was ok. I don't go to a lot of Filipino food places that much anyway and if I go it's because of the food craving.
